This zine was created for an assignment in my Rhetoric in Pop Culture (ENC 3375) course for my Writing & Rhetoric B.A. studies at the University of Central Florida. Each semester, this course chooses a specific pop cultural phenomenon to analyze. This semester, our task is to dissect the performance art of pop sensation and global superstar Lady Gaga through the lens of disability rhetoric. The primary goal of this assignment was to analyze how Gaga utilizes her performance of disability to "stare back" at the ableist gaze and convey our argument using both textual support and visual elements. For my zine, I decided to analyze the music video for "Paparazzi". I was specifically interested in the unspoken questions that Gaga's glamorous portrayals of disability, injury, and death appear to direct toward the ableist gaze.
